AAA offering drinkers free tows home for Super Bowl

Tow truck operators usually clean up after accidents, but they’ll be available to prevent them on Super Bowl Sunday in Las Vegas.

AAA Nevada is offering tows home for Super Bowl celebrants who choose to drink.

Participants can get a one-way, free tow of up to 10 miles — only to their homes — through AAA’s Tipsy Tow program, which will be offered from 6 a.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday, AAA said.

The program is open to anyone, not just AAA members, and tows are provided by companies associated with the organization. Although visitor traffic will be exceptionally busy because of the game, a spokeswoman for AAA said, no one seeking a tow will be turned away.

“If you call, you will get a tow truck,” she said.

Drivers, potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders and others can arrange for a tow by calling 800-222-4357. Callers must ask for the program by its name to summon a truck.

For towing more than 10 miles, participants must pay truck operators their regular rate.
