Henderson psychiatric care center to expand on parcel it bought from church

The Church LV has sold the land where it planned to build its future home to Acadia Healthcare Co. The land, on Jeffreys Street near Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson, is seen above on March 17, 2014.

A Henderson psychiatric and addiction-treatment center is expanding onto a site where a nearby church planned to build its future home.

Seven Hills Behavioral Institute owner Acadia Healthcare Co. bought an undeveloped lot this month from Church LV for $3.8 million, property records show.

The land, on Jeffreys Street just south of Horizon Ridge Parkway, has a warped sign announcing that it’s the “future site” of the church, whose current home is in the same adjacent office park as the treatment center.

The church also is known as the Church at South Las Vegas.

Jon O’Shaughnessy, a division president for Acadia, confirmed the land sale, saying his company would expand its services there and keep the existing facility next door.

The hospital treats a range of psychiatric problems, including major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and suicidal tendencies. It also provides detoxification and rehabilitation programs for alcoholics and drug addicts.

Acadia, based in Franklin, Tenn., acquired the facility in fall 2011 as part of its $76 million purchase of Pioneer Behavioral Health, which had five inpatient facilities in four states.

Pioneer opened the Henderson treatment center in spring 2008, with 58 beds.

Meanwhile, Church LV leaders could have used the empty land nearby to build a traditional house of worship, as opposed to the nondescript office building where they currently convene.

They applied for a grading permit last year but did not receive it, Henderson city spokesman Keith Paul said. He did not say why the permit wasn’t issued.

Lead Pastor Benny Perez and other church leaders did not respond to requests for comment.
