MEET: PINOT’S PALETTE:

Not an artist? Not a problem. You can still paint a masterpiece

Pinot’s Palette, a sip-and-paint studio located in the District at Green Valley Ranch, Thursday Oct 2, 2014.

Describe your business.

Our guests come to Pinot’s Palette to create their own masterpiece at the direction of our professional artists. We paint a different painting every day. Guests can sign up online and then just show up for the class, and we will take care of the rest. However, this is not an art class. This is a social event where, just like our tagline says, you can Paint. Drink. Have fun.

Who are your customers?

Active, social people who like to do fun things with friends and family.

What makes your business unique?

We facilitate fun using artistic creativity many people don’t even realize they possess. Many of our customers say, “I can’t draw a stick figure.” And those are the people who are most impressed with themselves when they create a quality painting worthy of hanging on their wall.

What is your business philosophy?

Focus on the guest experience — sweat the details. Make it the best possible paint-and-sip experience. Guests who have a fantastic experience will come back and bring their friends.

What’s the most important part of your job?

What is the hardest part about doing business in Southern Nevada?

Determining which marketing and advertising opportunities are the most effective has been challenging. There are literally hundreds of options.

What is the best part about doing business here?

Henderson has been extremely helpful in assisting us with our first business venture. Every interaction with local government, from the police department doing our background checks for our liquor license to the business licensing clerks assisting with paperwork to the building department being incredibly responsive during the inspection process to the Public Health District helping ensure we have a food-safe operation — every interaction was positive and helpful.

What obstacles have you overcome?

It took a long time to find the perfect location but we are glad it finally became available. We are now spoiled, and it will be challenging for us to find an equally impressive location in Summerlin for our second studio.

How can Southern Nevada improve its business climate?

Don’t pass the margin tax.
