Downtown Summerlin makes splashy entrance; Haze plans party-like exit

After years of delays and construction, a massive array of shops, restaurants and entertainment options has made a splashy entrance in Summerlin.

Downtown Summerlin held various grand-opening events for many of its businesses last week.

Meanwhile, new restaurants add flavor to Henderson and Town Square, a new library branch enlivens North Las Vegas and a big-name nightclub readies to close at Aria.

      More than 80 shops and restaurants are open after developer Howard Hughes Corp. debuted the project with a ceremony Thursday.

      Shops include American Eagle Outfitters, Bath & Body Works, Boot Barn, Champs, Dillard’s, Ethan Allen, Forever 21, Guess, Hot Topic, Kay Jewelers, Lane Bryant, Old Navy, Pandora, Skechers, Sports Authority, Sunglass Hut, Victoria’s Secret and many others, according to the Downtown Summerlin directory.

      Food options range from Andiron Steak and Sea to Bonanno’s New York Pizzeria and Panda Express, according to the directory. There is also a Trader Joe’s. A Regal Cinemas 5 theater is the centerpiece of the project’s entertainment options.

      The project is essentially an outdoor mall, similar in look to Town Square near the Strip or the District at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson.

      A fine-dining option arrived in Henderson with the Oct. 1 opening of David Clawson Restaurant.

      Chef David Clawson’s mantra is to “paint the Picasso” of his career with the food and ambiance of the restaurant, according to its website.

      The restaurant, at 2840 Bicentennial Parkway in Henderson, is open for dinner from 5-10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and for brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

      Pot Liquor Contemporary American Smokehouse

      Pot Liquor Contemporary American Smokehouse held its soft opening Sept. 10 and its grand opening Wednesday at Town Square.

      The restaurant showcases an expansive selection of barbecue cuisines, with an apple mint julep among its signature drinks, according to a media packet.

      The 6,622-square-foot restaurant located at 6587 Las Vegas Blvd. South seats up to 258 guests.

      Pot Liquor is open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, with happy hour from 3-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to a media packet.

    • The new North Las Vegas Library held a grand-opening ceremony Wednesday.

      The North Las Vegas Library opened Wednesday in the North Las Vegas City Hall building at 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

      The library will offer more than the traditional books, films and music. The branch has a computer and career center offering computer instruction, résumé creation, career guidance, education planning and job searches, according to a news release.

      The branch is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closed Friday through Sunday, according to its website. The North Las Vegas Library District has two other branches, the Aliante and Alexander libraries.

      Haze Nightclub

      Haze Nightclub at Aria is scheduled to close Nov. 1.

      A spokeswoman for the club’s operator, Light Group, said a closing party for Haze is scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. Nov. 1, with DJ Carl Cox performing.

      Light Group said in a statement Haze would give way to a new concept for 2015, with details to come.
