As talk of arenas and a proposed stadium project trudge along in Las Vegas, the South Point is ahead of schedule on its darling — a palace-like bowling center expected to lure marquee tournaments and fans from all over the world.

The South Point Bowling Plaza’s new tournament-only facility will host the PBA World Series of Bowling, which is free and open to the public, Nov. 1-2. The $38 million project finished about eight months ahead of schedule, said Mike Monyak, director of bowling operations for South Point.

Also, Capriotti’s opens a shop amid food-drive plans, two big-name retailers open in Fashion Show mall and a popular restaurant seeks a new home.

The South Point Bowling Plaza will host its first major event in the tournament-only center Nov. 1-2, when the PBA World Series of Bowling hits the lanes with ESPN cameras rolling.

The $38 million center can be described, in bowling terms, as a strike.

“The project came out really well,” Monyak said. “On the bowling side of it, everyone on my staff had input on it.”

The South Point will continue to operate its separate public bowling venue, which is open 24 hours.

    • Lee's Korean BBQ

A fire caused about $70,000 in damage to Lee’s Korean BBQ in February, but the restaurant reopened in August and is now open 24 hours a day.

The restaurant features a remodeled interior in the wake of the fire, a Lee’s spokeswoman said. The restaurant is at 6820 Spring Mountain Road in Las Vegas.

    • Desnudo Tacos

Desnudo Tacos, a popular eatery at 3240 Arville St. in Las Vegas, closed last week.

Chef Christopher Palmeri wrote on Facebook, however, that the restaurant is in search of a new home.

“After trying for a while to negotiate a new lease for Desnudo Tacos at the Arville location, we were unable to reach a reasonable conclusion. So as of this week Desnudo will no longer be open on Arville,” Palmeri wrote. “We are however actively seeking new residence for the shop. If there is anyone interested or knows of an opportunity, please get in touch with me. I would like to thank all of the guests of Desnudo for your loyalty and patronage. I can’t thank you enough and look forward to Desnudo popping up again soon in Las Vegas.”

Multiple attempts to reach Palmeri, who is also the chef behind the wildly popular Naked City Pizza Shop inside Moon Doggie’s Bar and Grill, were unsuccessful. The Facebook post had comments from several Desnudo customers mourning the restaurant’s closure.
