This Oct. 5, 2005, photo shows the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, N.Y., which is credited with inventing “Buffalo style” wings 50 years ago. Anchor Bar is bringing its wings to Las Vegas with a restaurant opening in the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian.

As a new 24-hour dry-cleaning service sets a mid-May opening date for for its second location in the valley and an East Coast landmark heads to Las Vegas, a local fine-dining restaurant closes.

It may not be Michelin starred, but Anchor Bar — the Buffalo, N.Y., eatery that is home of the original buffalo chicken wings — is the latest culinary trailblazer to set up shop in Las Vegas.

The restaurant, which created the famed wing style in 1964, plans to expand its franchise to Las Vegas in June with a location at the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes. In addition to its Buffalo locations, Anchor Bar also has locations in Williamsville, N.Y., and Ontario, Canada.

Anchor Bar has not yet announced its Las Vegas restaurant’s menu offerings, but the original Anchor Bar’s menu includes the famous chicken wings (with your choice of mild, medium, hot, spicy hot BBQ or “suicidal” sauces), pizza and other Italian dishes such as chicken cacciatore and stuffed green pepper, sandwiches, seafood and desserts.

Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group has closed Postrio in the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian after nearly 16 years of operation, according to a media release.

The restaurant — which occupied the second-largest space in the Venetian — closed April 26.

Puck told the Sun’s Robin Leach, “We are so busy with our six other restaurants in Las Vegas and concentrating on the expansion of other venues around the world that, with the increased rent being charged by the mall managers, it simply didn’t make economic sense to continue Postrio. We have enjoyed 16 prosperous years in the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian thanks to our loyal guests, and we are most appreciative.”

Puck, who became the first star chef to open a restaurant in Las Vegas with Spago at the Forum Shops at Caesars in 1992, continues to operate Cut steakhouse at Palazzo, the Venetian’s sister casino, among his other Las Vegas properties.
