CARSON CITY — The Las Vegas Strip gambling win, paced by baccarat and slot machine play, bounced back in April, posting a 7.4 percent increase over the same month of a year ago, the state Gaming Control Board reported.

In other areas, the gaming win — recorded before expenses and taxes — jumped 24.9 percent in downtown Las Vegas, 43.3 percent in North Las Vegas and 20.4 percent on the Boulder Strip.

Statewide, casinos registered a win of $855.7 million, a gain of 6.1 percent.

This is the sixth month in the last seven that Strip casinos have reported increased wins. March was the only downturn, when winnings dropped 14.9 percent compared to the same month a year earlier.

Among the games, baccarat led the way in April with a 15.7 percent gain, winning $65.7 million, the most of any card game on the Strip. The 47,000 slot machines racked up a win of $248.9.million, a 12 percent increase.

Among other games, the control board said, the blackjack win fell by 5.2 percent, craps was up 4.5 percent and roulette was up 13.7 percent.

Some of the outlying areas in Clark County didn’t fare as well. Gaming in Laughlin was up, but by just .048 percent, Mesquite was off .08 percent and the balance of Clark County was down .099 percent.

Northern Nevada casinos experienced a rough month. The gaming win in Washoe County was down 15.4 percent; South Lake Tahoe fell 4.4 percent; Elko County had a 3.3 percent drop; and the Carson Valley area fell 3 percent.
