Johnson Jacobson Wilcox CPAs sponsored its annual art contest at E.W. Griffith Elementary School. The theme was why they are proud to be Americans. Fifth-grader Phoebe Ray won, and her artwork was featured on the firm’s July 4 holiday card. The firm also presented $5,000 to the school.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. and nonprofit Clean the World partnered on new equipment that will help the organization double its production of recycled soap, helping people in need both domestically and around the globe. Sands is also underwriting 100,000 Clean the World hygiene kits for distribution through the American Red Cross to disaster victims.

The Engelstad Family Foundation awarded a $2.7 million grant for an “extreme makeover” project at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. The money will fund renovation of 10 foster homes on the charity’s Boulder City campus, as well as upgrades to the chapel.

Roseman University of Health Sciences received a $10,000 grant from the Sapphire Foundation for Prostate Cancer to support research being conducted by Dr. Oscar Goodman Jr., an oncologist specializing in prostate and genitourinary cancers at Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada. Goodman is a researcher at Roseman’s Summerlin Campus.

United Way of Southern Nevada received a $160,000 Lumina Foundation national grant to help increase postsecondary degree attainment in Southern Nevada.

Southland Industries’ annual Southwest Golf Classic raised more than $20,000. Southland made a $10,500 donation to Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada; the remainder went to the division’s charity fund, which benefits a variety of organizations.

Cabo Wabo Cantina inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood conducted a memorial fundraiser June 23 for fallen Metro Police Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo and citizen Joseph Wilcox. It donated 50 percent of all proceeds from 2 to 10 p.m.

Planet Hollywood comedian Jeff Dunham donated $50,000 and his show partners Caesars Entertainment, AEG Live, Tate Entertainment Group and Base Entertainment donated another $50,000 to the Injured Police Officers Fund and the Joseph R. Wilcox Memorial Fund.

City National Bank will award $60,000 in community grants to charitable organizations in five states as part of the bank’s 60th anniversary. The bank is giving 15 $1,000 grants each quarter through the end of the year. The bank annually donates to charitable causes in Nevada, California, New York, Nashville and Atlanta.

HELP of Southern Nevada’s new executive board members are: Rick McGough, vice president of contact center operations for MGM Resorts International, chair; Jerrie Merritt, senior vice president/community development manager for Bank of Nevada, vice chair; Kathy McClain, retired Nevada State Assembly member, treasurer; and Holly Walters, chief risk and chief technology officer for Toyota Financial Savings Bank, secretary.

Gold Coast Promotions partnered with Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit to help raise more than $13,000 for their philanthropic causes.

One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating installed a new condenser, valued at more than $4,000, at the home of a 72-year-old Las Vegas woman who is disabled and on a fixed income.

Strip headliner Olivia Newton-John and three businesswomen will be recognized Aug. 18 at the second-annual Women’s Tea for Easter Seals Nevada. The event honors women in the community committed to business, family and community. This year’s “Tremendous Three” honorees are: Terri Peck, director of marketing and entertainment, Fox 5 Las Vegas; Christie Garness, event specialist for the city of Las Vegas; and Tonia Chaftez, general manager, Tivoli Village.

The 16th Annual AGEM/AGA Golf Classic Presented by JCM Global raised $131,000 for the National Center for Responsible Gaming. To date, the event has raised nearly $1.4 million in support of the center.

Make-A-Wish volunteer Betty Evans was named “Senior of the Quarter” by the city of Las Vegas senior citizen advisory board.

McDonald’s restaurants in the Las Vegas Valley donated money from the sale of some food items for a day to Metro’s Injured Police Officers Fund.

Outback Steakhouse’s newest Southern Nevada location on Stephanie Street in Henderson donated 50 percent of its opening-day sales to Henderson Little League.

Marilyn Goforth, legal administrator at Kolesar and Leatham, was recognized by the Association of Legal Administrators with its “Outstanding Volunteer” award for Region 6, comprised of Arizona, California and Nevada.

Terry Guesman is development director at Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada. His previous roles include development officer for United Way of Southern Nevada and assistant director of development and alumni relations for the Lee School of Business at UNLV.

Jennifer Carleton, a shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, was appointed to the American Heart Association’s Las Vegas Go Red for Women executive committee. She will assist with fundraising, co-chair the silent auction and help with subcommittee duties.

Producer, director, actress, dancer and choreographer Anita Mann joined the board of directors for the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which was established in 2009 by producer Nigel Lythgoe and director Adam Shankman to help fund dance programs to underprivileged youths across the U.S.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada teamed with Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas for a partnership that includes a sunscreen kiosk offering skin-safety tips and complimentary SPF 30 sunscreen to visitors.

The Las Ventanas Foundation exceeded its $1.5 million fundraising goal to help open the Ronald Reagan Memory Support Suites in Fall 2015 with the help of an anonymous donor’s matching gift of up to $250,000.
