In honor of National Hero Appreciation Day, Krispy Kreme donated 350 doughnuts to the Las Vegas Fire Department headquarters in downtown Las Vegas.

The Engelstad Family Foundation awarded a three-year grant totaling $1.6 million to the Public Education Foundation to expand its early-childhood learning, language development and parent engagement programs.

Findlay Toyota presented a 2014 Toyota Sienna to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children as part of the Toyota 2013 100 Cars for Good program. The automaker donated 100 cars to 100 nonprofit organizations.

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, which provides services to seniors, was awarded a $1,500 grant from the Washington Federal Foundation.

Yellow Checker Star, a taxicab company, donated a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan to Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. It is used to transport senior citizens to and from medical appointments and on shopping trips and errands.

Clark County Fire Fighters Local 1908 donated $6,000 to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada. Candlelighters serves more than 600 children affected by cancer.

Three Square Food Bank, the Firm Public Relations and Marketing, Big Picture Studios and Pink Kitty Creative received honorable mentions in the Branding/Re-branding category of the PR News Nonprofit PR Awards during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., for their 2013 Bag Childhood Hunger Campaign.

Toyota Financial Services partnered with auto remarketing firms ADESA, Manheim, DAA Northwest and Norwalk Auto Auctions to donate $12,857 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada as part of its Diplomas to Degrees college readiness program. For every vehicle purchased from Nov. 1-Dec. 2, TFS pledged $50 while the four remarketing firms pledged an additional $15-$25 per vehicle.

The Tile Council of North America donated tile benches to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.

The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program awarded a $25,000 one-year grant to Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican’s R.E.D. Rose Program to increase awareness of breast cancer and provide free screenings. It’s the fourth year that the program has received funding from Avon.

Communities in Schools of Nevada received a $75,000 grant from Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart Foundation as part of the company’s Nevada State Giving Program.

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children’s Crossings program received a $15,000 grant from Bank of America for supportive housing and transitional living for abused, neglected and homeless teens.

The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood in March collected donations in its fountain for Andson, a local nonprofit that teaches and mentors children and young adults about financial literacy and more.

The Caesars Foundation approved 21 grants totaling more than $1 millionfor Best Buddies, Chicanos Por La Causa, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, Green Chips, ITN Las Vegas, Nevada Senior Games and the Animal Foundation.

Ronald McDonald appeared at the Henderson International School as part of Nevada Reading Week. He presented four of his favorite books and allowed students to vote on which one they wanted him to read. Dr. Seuss’ “Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!” won.

Cogburn Law Office employees packed 2,880 backpacks and 1,078 boxes full of food during a volunteer event at Three Square Food Bank. The food was donated to Southern Nevada children and seniors.

City National Bank and Barnes and Noble presented Lake, Cambiero and Cortez elementary schools with more than 2,500 new books and matching donations of more than $20,000 as part of its sixth annual Holiday Book Drive. This year, more than 52,000 new books worth more than $150,000 will go to 28 schools and nonprofit groups in four states.

Horses4Heroes opened a facility at Tule Springs Ranch after volunteer contractors completed about $80,000 worth of work and donated $20,000 for the group. AGC Charities, led by Martin-Harris Construction, built a riding center, mare motel and barnyard as part of its renovation projects, Operation Opening Doors.

The NV Energy Foundation donated $20,000 to create a computer training room, now called the Imagine Room, at Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s Cheyenne campus in North Las Vegas. The room contains new laptop computers with wireless Internet, a Smart Board and projector, and new furniture.

Tronox, a Henderson manufacturing plant, donated $5,000 to the Basic High School Robotics Team.

Cox Charities awarded $168,000 in grants to 28 nonprofit organizations. This is the seventh grant cycle for Cox Charities, which has awarded nearly $1 million to local organizations since 2007. Cox Charities is funded by Cox employee contributions and fundraisers.

The Salvation Army’s annual Benefit Banquet at the World Market Center raised more than $105,000.

Local United Airlines employees donated $1,100 to the Salvation Army to buy water from Three Square at a discounted price. It will be used for the homeless, the Family Services offices and in the Emergency Disaster Services mobile kitchen.

The Las Vegas Pinball Collectors Club donated a truck to the Salvation Army. Since its inception in 1990, the quarters played in machines at the club’s Pinball Hall of Fame have been shared with nonprofit groups.

Las Vegas and Henderson Massage Envy Spas locations teamed up with the Goodie Two Shoes foundation to donate $1 from every sugar foot scrub purchased in any of the 12 clinics to the foundation to provide shoes, socks and other essential items for children.
