McDonald’s restaurants across Southern Nevada raised $50,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas scholarship program during the Eggs for Education fundraiser. Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen raised the most and was awarded a golden egg trophy for his efforts by local owner/operator Ron Smith. On May 15, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas awarded $173,830 to 153 high school graduates.

The Forgotten Song Foundation, dedicated to recognizing, remembering, and sustaining the visual artists and performance artistry of live music, honored Ken Hanlon and Keith Thompson at the Vegas Icon Visionary Awards. Hanlon is director of the Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center at UNLV and a music professor.

WestCare Nevada’s Women and Children’s Campus includes capital improvements made possible through a $350,000 competitive grant from Nevada Women’s Philanthropy and $214,000 in donated labor, construction and trade support through HomeAid Southern Nevada. HELP of Southern Nevada was awarded an NWP grant worth $385,000. A portion of the grant will provide furniture, a security system and other essential equipment for the nonprofit’s new Shannon West Homeless Youth Center.

Myrtle Tate Elementary School won the Fire up Your Feet Spring 2016 challenge.

Myrtle Tate Elementary School won the Fire up Your Feet Spring 2016 challenge, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Nevada, Southern Nevada Health District, and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. The school won $1,300. A total of $5,250 was awarded.

Variety School teacher Douglas Trinkle is a winner of the 2016 Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award from the National Association of Special Education Teachers.

The+Source medical marijuana dispensary raised $1,000 for Friends of Parkinson’s, a nonprofit organization that connects and creates, local, nationwide and international initiatives that support the neurological community and communities related to Parkinson’s disease.

Fremont Street Experience raised more than $9,000 for Susan G. Komen Nevada during a SlotZilla Charity Challenge in May.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Friends of the North Las Vegas Library District a $1,500 grant to support literacy.

The Epicurean Charitable Foundation of Las Vegas raised more than $80,000 for local student scholarships at the Swing for Scholarships golf event.

City National Bank donated $10,000 to the Financial Guidance Center and $5,000 to Three Square Food Bank. The Three Square donation was matched by the Bennett Family Foundation.

The Foundation Assisting Seniors, a local nonprofit organization that assists the senior community, donated 10 wheelchairs to Honor Flight Southern Nevada.

Anna Antidormi of Cashman Middle School and Rudy Anthony Amaya of Biltmore Continuation High School had their art displayed on a Regional Transportation Commission bus for winning the eighth annual Earth Day art contest.

Colliers International’s 22nd Annual Links for Life charity golf tournament raised more than $80,000 for children’s charities. Colliers International donated $25,000. Other participating organizations included Las Vegas Sands Corp., Worthe Hanson & Worthe, Panattoni Development, Majestic Realty Co., Swenson Development & Construction, Nevada Title Co., Fidelity National Title, First American Title Co., Henriksen Butler, MCA Realty, Meadows Bank, Korte Co., Findlay Automotive Group, Gaudin Porsche, Burke Construction, Soil Tech, Tradewinds Construction, Integrated Landscape Management, Doherty Industrial Group, SignCo Digital Color Imaging, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, VEGAS INC and Nevada Business Magazine.

Johnson Advisors donated $5,000 to Walter V. Long Elementary School.

Rep. Dina Titus announced $432,264 in grants to fight veteran homelessness in Nevada. The funds come from a partnership between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Department of Veterans’ Affairs. In Las Vegas, the program will provide the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and the VA’s Southern Nevada Health Care System with $301,440 to offer 40 rental assistance vouchers and access to medical services.

The Penta Building Group raised $120,000 for three Southern Nevada nonprofits during its 12th Annual Charity Golf Classic at the Revere Golf Club. Recipients were the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, the Women’s Development Center and the Nevada Military Support Alliance.

Easter Seals Nevada received $790.47 from Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. Miracle Mile Shops collected coins tossed in its fountain in April to donate to the nonprofit.

Four foster teens received keys to apartments at a ceremony hosted at Olive Crest’s Project Independence facility. The facility is made possible by Bank of America’s $200,000 Neighborhood Builders award.

The Foundation Assisting Seniors is endorsing the HowRU Program from Henderson and North Las Vegas police and fire departments. The program was created to provide peace of mind to seniors and their families. Each day, a HowRU operator calls subscribers. These services are free to anyone older than 50.
