Shelli Ryan, CEO of Ad Hoc Communication Resources, was appointed chairwoman of the board for the Stride Center, a nonprofit working to empower economic self-sufficiency for individuals and communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Peggy Roefer, of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, was awarded the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Wendell McCurry Excellence in Water Quality Award for her work protecting and improving water resources in Southern Nevada.

KCLV Channel 2, the city’s government access television station, took home several awards during the Electronic Media Awards. KCLV was the winner in the documentary category for “Crossing Vegas,” a half-hour program shot and produced by Eric Sorenson with Steven Tyler Pierce doing post production. The station won in the public affairs/government TV program category for “City Beat,” a half-hour magazine-format show written, produced and hosted by Nancy Byrne, with post production by Steve Horlock and photographers/editors Sorenson and James Dee. Lastly, KCLV was a winner in the public service program for “Emergency Preparedness: We’re All in this Together,” a half-hour program informing residents how to be prepared for emergencies, written and produced by Byrne with photographer/editor Sorenson and post producer Horlock.

Poet Shaun Griffin and folklorist and historian Ronald M. James were inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame.

At the 25th annual Electronic Media Awards, presented by the Nevada Broadcasters Association, the Firm Public Relations & Marketing and its clients received several awards. Three Square Food Bank won best website for a nonprofit organization for bagchildhunger.org; Three Square shared the award for agency TV public service announcement with the Firm and Big Picture Studios. Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada and Transmission won for best website, professional services, for cccnevada.com. CCCN’s Lisa Santwer won for best ad agency/production/PR manager of the year. CCCN and Thomas Puckett Advertising won for TV overall promotion and/or campaign. KNPR’s “State of Nevada” won for best locally produced radio talk show and best radio program. Treasure Island’s website won for best website and best of show. Treasure Island and the Firm shared the award for best TV news release to a TV station from a PR firm. The Firm’s Andrea Mestdagh won for ad agency/production/PR account executive of the year.
