Attention, house hunters: Home expo getting underway Friday at Cashman

House hunters can learn about Las Vegas’ builders and sprawling communities at a two-day expo this week.

Real Estate Expo Las Vegas is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Cashman Center, featuring dozens of exhibitors, including homebuilders, master-planned-community developers, real estate agents, bankers and mortgage brokers.

Organizers expect about 15,000 attendees. Admission is free.

The expo follows a year of increased new-home sales in Southern Nevada. Homebuilders closed about 6,800 sales in Clark County last year, up 13 percent from 2014 but far below the levels of both the hyper-inflated boom years last decade and what was achieved in the 1990s.

Builders sold about 17,900 new homes in the Las Vegas area in 1995, almost 39,000 in 2005 and then just 3,900 in 2011, after the bubble burst and the economy crashed, according to Home Builders Research.
