Cleveland Museum of Art Series

1st and 3rd Tuesday from 11 a.m.-Noon

August 20: Secular & Supernatural. Compare ritual and royal objects from the Yoruba and Edo peoples of Nigeria to learn how their rules maintain worldly authority with the assistance of supernatural forces. Stunning objects introduce divination, mythology and communication with ancestors.

Sept. 3: Japanese / German Relief Printmaking. Compare relief printmaking east and west, by examining the history of Japanese prints and the history of German prints. Both countries have a strong legacy of printmaking with very distinctive styles.

Sept. 17: International Mindedness / Contemporary Art. Using contemporary art, we’ll discuss how artists across the globe are similarly responding to their culture and environment, and how certain objects created in one culture were viewed elsewhere. Participants will think about what the function and significance of these objects are and how that significance relates to today’s environment.

Memory Loss Caregiver Support Group Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

Sibling Class

This class is geared to the 2- to 10-year-old sibling of a new infant. The purpose is to acquaint children with the hospital environment prior to the delivery of the baby. This will include a tour of the Maternity Unit. Responsibilities of being an older sibling, along with special characteristics of a newborn, are presented in a playful way. The cost of this class is $10 per child or $5 per family group.
