El Sombrero reopens; Touro University expands campus

Mexican restaurant El Sombrero reopened under new management and with an updated dining space last Monday.

The local family restaurant was in business for 64 years before closing in April. Many were upset about the closing, but with the help of new owner Irma Aguirre, the restaurant has undergone a major makeover and opened its doors once more.

Also in the valley, Stein Mart has taken up a new residence, Touro University is expanding and the Gramercy is now renting out its office space.

    • El Sombrero

      El Sombrero's new dining area is more modern, with all black and white decor and a wall covered in mirrors. The menu has been updated with Mexican street food options, such as tamale de carne, a sweet corn tamale with seasoned shredded brisket.

      The restaurant is located on 807 S. Main St. and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m for lunch and 5:30 to 9 p.m. for dinner.

      Stein Mart

      Stein Mart is moving their former West Sahara Promenade store to a new location Sept. 26.

      The new store will be in the Sahara Center on West Sahara Avenue. The new location was selected because of its close proximity to the 215 Beltway.

      The Sahara location will be 33,000 square feet and is one of two Las Vegas locations part of the company’s largest nationwide expansion to date.

      Stein Mart carries apparel for women and men, accessories, home décor, linens and shoes.

    • Touro Active Aging and Health Center Grand Opening September 11, 2014

      Touro University

      Touro University is expanding their health center to address Southern Nevada's health care needs.

      The expansion opened Thursday and nearly doubled the size of the existing Touro Health Center.

      The new center has community features such as the Michael Harter Senior Active Center.

      The expansion also allows Touro to accommodate an increase in patients by hiring additional physicians and staff.

      The campus is located on 874 American Pacific Drive in Henderson.

      Gramercy

      The Gramercy, located on Russell and the 215 Beltway, is now leasing state-of-the-art office spaces.

      The urban lifestyle village is 500,000 square feet and also has a nine-story high rise with 85 luxury residencies. Construction is underway on the residential and retail spaces, which are expected to be available for lease in the fall.

      There will be 200,000 square feet available for commercial office space.

      The Gramercy is located on 9257 W. Russell Road.

    • The Mirage gets a 24/7 restaurant, Pantry.

      Pantry

      Pantry, a 24-hour restaurant at the Mirage, is now open.

      The 149-seat restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with homespun recipes and wholesome ingredients.

      The décor is set to look like a French country kitchen while serving home cooking-style meals.

      The restaurant is centrally located in the hotel to provide easy access from the guest elevators and casino.
