Jeremy Aguero
Jeremy Aguero, principal of Applied Analysis, has been selected the 2011 Alumnus of the Year by the Boyd Law School at UNLV. The award recognizes the impact an individual has made either through contributions to society in his or her professional field or through personal achievements.
The award was presented Nov. 4 at a reception on campus before the Alumni Association homecoming dinner.

The Las Vegas office of Snell & Wilmer was recognized for its support of Communities In Schools at the Clark County School District annual recognition breakfast. Attorneys Patricia Curtis and Chad Fears represented the firm. Curtis served on the CIS board for six years and continues to provide legal guidance to the organization. Fears helped defend CIS on a pro bono basis in a lawsuit that was ultimately dismissed.
CIS is a national organization that works within the public school system, determining student needs and establishing relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers and parent and volunteer organizations to provide needed resources.

Doreen Hartwell
Doreen Spears Hartwell is president of the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association. She is a shareholder in the litigation department at Lionel Sawyer & Collins and was elected to the 2011-13 term at the organization’s scholarship gala Nov. 19. She is a graduate of the McGeorge School of Law at University of the Pacific.

Leland K. Faux is a new associate at the law firm of Faux Law Group, practicing in surety law and general business matters. He attended Brigham Young University.

Greg Brower
Greg Brower, a partner in Snell & Wilmer’s Reno and Las Vegas locations, was recently appointed to the newly created Mining Oversight and Accountability Commission by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval. The commission is charged with overseeing the activities of the state agencies responsible for the taxation, operation, safety and environmental regulation of mines and mining in Nevada.

Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada on Dec. 2 honored local attorneys who provided free legal services to low-income Nevadans in Clark County during the past year.
Dara J. Goldsmith and Marjorie A. Guymon of Goldsmith & Guymon were each honored individually as 2011 Pro Bono Attorneys of the Year.
Randall Jones and Jennifer Dorsey of Kemp, Jones & Coulthard were given the Vince A. Consul Memorial Pro Bono Award for their work on behalf of clients victimized by unlawful practices of payday lending companies.
The annual Lied Award categories and the firms or attorneys receiving them were: Most Hours Donated, Snell & Wilmer; Most Cases, Kunin & Carman; Most Hours by an Attorney: Richard C. Gordon; Most Cases by an Attorney: Israel (Ishi) Kunin. The center also recognized several other attorneys who donated their legal services during 2011.

Lucy Flores and Barbara McDonald have joined the law firm of Maddox, Isaacson & Cisneros. Flores will lead the expanded personal injury practice. She is a Nevada assemblywoman. McDonald was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Award from the Boyd Law School at UNLV.

Matthew H. Friedman is now a partner in the law firm of Dawson Ford and Friedman. Friedman practices primarily in family law, civil litigation and personal injury law. The firm also announced the name change from Dawson & Ford.

Daniel Polsenberg
Von Heinz and Daniel Polsenberg, partners in Lewis and Roca’s Law Vegas office, have been named as “local litigation stars” by the publication Benchmark Litigation. Heinz specializes in securities fraud, insurance provider liability, ERISA claims and employment discrimination. Polsenberg was cited for appellate work.

McDonald, Carano Wilson, a firm with offices in Las Vegas and Reno, has been named by Corporate Counsel magazine as a 2012 “Go-To Law Firm” for the nation’s Top 500 companies. The firm also was cited by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubble as one of its “top-ranked law firms,” and will be recognized in a Dec. 26 issue of Fortune Magazine.

Aaron Ford, a partner in the Las Vegas office of the law firm of Snell & Wilmer, has returned from London upon completion of the British American Project.
The project exists to help maintain and enrich relations between Britain and the United States. Ford was among 20 delegates selected to represent the U.S. and join 20 British delegates in the annual conference.
