Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air today began flying nonstop round-trip flights to Kentucky’s third-largest city, Owensboro.
Allegiant kicked off the new service to Owensboro-Daviess Regional Airport with the appearance of a Las Vegas showgirl and an Elvis Presley impersonator.
“The Tri-State has asked for Las Vegas flights for 2½ years and Allegiant has responded,” said Bob Whitmer, the airport’s director. “Oct. 14 is a great day for Owensboro.”
Located on the southern banks of the Ohio River, the airport serves northern Kentucky, southern Indiana and eastern Illinois.
Allegiant will use 150-passenger, twin-engine MD-80 jets on the route.
Flights will operate Fridays and Mondays, leaving Owensboro at 12:20 p.m., and arriving at McCarran International Airport at 2:10 p.m. The return flight leaves Las Vegas at 6:10 a.m., arriving in Owensboro at 11:35 a.m.
Allegiant, a subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Co., which sells packages that include flights, lodging, show tickets and car rentals, is offering introductory one-way tickets for $87, which doesn’t include taxes and various fees.
