The president and CEO of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce has resigned to spend more time on his construction business.
Curtis Cummings, who served four years on the chamber’s board of directors before taking over as president and CEO in April 2011, announced his resignation late last week, citing plans to focus on expanding Jeske Builders, his construction company.
Cummings succeeded CEO Michael Varney, who took an executive position at the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
“Curtis has made a valuable contribution to the chamber and the wider North Las Vegas community during his brief tenure,” said chamber board Chairman Mike PeQueen. “His passion and energy will be missed. We wish him every success in developing his business.”
PeQueen said the chamber board has launched a search for a replacement for Cummings and that staff members would coordinate current events and programs.
Cummings, who served as vice chairman of the chamber’s membership committee when he was a member of the board, took the helm of the North Las Vegas Chamber in the midst of the economic downturn and helped bolster membership with several new initiatives.
He helped develop the Valley Wide Mixer and the successful City Walk, which pairs the organization’s Ambassador members with North Las Vegas City Council members in an outreach program to small business owners.
