4 Las Vegas companies lauded for their ‘engaged workplaces’

Four locally based companies were recognized Monday for their efforts in creating engaged workplaces for their employees.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, online-retailer Zappos, Allegiant Airlines, and the Las Vegas branch of Caesars Entertainment were listed as one of Achiever’s 50 Most Engaged Workplaces, joining companies such as Monsanto and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

The list judged companies based on eight factors, including their leadership, culture, social responsibility and commitment to the professional and personal growth of employees.

"Companies that focus on employee engagement tend to perform better financially, attract and retain the best talent and enjoy improved customer service and client retention," Razor Suleman, founder of Achievers, said in a statement. "These companies serve as role models for other businesses to engage their own employees and build success."

Achievers, which builds employee recognition and rewards software, publishes a list of the top 50 U.S. employers and the top 50 Canadian employers annually.

This year marks the first time the Cosmopolitan and Allegiant have been recognized, although Zappos and Caesars have both been on the list before.

Tracy West, regional director of engagement for Caesars in Las Vegas, said the company focuses its efforts on supporting employees in several ways, including promoting physical well-being, providing training and career advancement opportunities and by supporting volunteering and sustainability efforts among the workforce.

West said the goal is to create a workplace where employees are happy, engaged and feel taken care of.

“We try to make it more than just a paycheck,” she said.
