The fastest growing airline at McCarran International Airport last year is adding another flight and destination in May and June.

Miramar, Fla.-based Spirit Airlines is adding Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to its route map and will initiate service with one daily flight from Las Vegas and three non-stop flights a day between Minneapolis and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Spirit will compete on the route with Delta Air Lines, which operates 44 round-trip flights a week between Las Vegas and the Twin Cities, and Sun Country Airlines, which flies 12 round trips there a week.

The airline’s one daily flight will leave Minneapolis at 10:15 p.m., arriving at McCarran at 11:45 p.m. The first flight will occur May 31.

The return trip will leave Las Vegas at 12:25 a.m., arriving at 5:35 a.m. Flights begin June 1.

Spirit is introducing the route with $57.58 round-trip fares to members of the airline’s $9 Fare Club, which has a $60 annual fee. Flights have to be booked by Thursday.

Spirit currently offers an average 22 flights a day to eight destinations and will add two daily round trips to and from Denver beginning in May. It was McCarran’s fastest growing airline in 2011, with more than four times the number of flights now than it had a year ago.
