Las Vegas-NLV chamber merger appears to be proceeding

The weight of the economic recession has forced the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce to merge with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in order to survive.

A recent letter addressed to North Las Vegas Chamber members from the board of directors states that both organizations have voted to approve the merger, which will be finalized "in the next few weeks." Despite the consolidation, North Las Vegas will maintain an office with staff available to assist chamber members as well as a North Las Vegas advisory group.

The combined chamber will also continue to offer events and programs focused on small businesses and government affairs in North Las Vegas.

“The recession created significant financial strain on the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce,” the letter states. “The option of combining the two chambers is a good opportunity to move ahead and ensure survival and ongoing sustainability for North Las Vegas Chamber members.”

North Las Vegas has struggled with the economic recession, declaring a state of financial emergency in June to help close a $30.9 million budget deficit. Part of those cuts included closing the North Las Vegas Detention Center and transporting prisoners to the Las Vegas Detention Center.
