Banking company bringing call center to Henderson, filling some of the space Zappos left vacant

Barclaycard US is moving a credit-card call center into Zappos’ former headquarters in Henderson, as seen above on Dec. 17, 2013.

A British banking giant is bringing a credit card call center to Zappos’ former headquarters in Henderson.

Barclaycard US, owned by Barclays, says it is moving 400 employees next year into Green Valley Corporate Center, an office park off Green Valley Parkway just north of the 215 Beltway.

The company says it will have 700 workers there by December 2015 and 1,000 employees when fully operational.

It is renting about 91,300 square feet in two buildings, 2280 and 2290 Corporate Circle, according to Charles Van Geel, vice president of leasing and sales for landlord American Nevada Company. The Greenspun family, owners of VEGAS INC and the Las Vegas Sun, also owns American Nevada.

Barclaycard, based in Wilmington, Del., is doing tenant improvement work for now but aims to be open for business by February, Van Geel said.

Barclaycard is moving to town with a chunk of public money. In September, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development approved a $1.87 million funding request from the company, which said it would use the money for furniture and fixtures in Henderson.

The state funds will be paid out only after the company reaches, and maintains for at least a month, certain employment levels.

Zappos was renting 156,000 square feet in three buildings at Green Valley Corporate Center. The online retailer moved into its new headquarters in old City Hall in September, bringing 1,500 employees to downtown Las Vegas.

ITT Technical Institute has signed a lease for almost 26,000 square feet in 2300 Corporate Circle and is expected to move there in spring 2014, Van Geel said.

That leaves about 38,000 square feet of former Zappos space that still needs to be rented, though Van Geel said the empty offices come with a key perk.

“Zappos left all the furniture behind,” he said.
