A popular grocery chain has joined the growing list of expected retailers at the Shops at Summerlin.

Trader Joe’s signed a lease for an 11,700-square-foot store at the shopping and office complex near Red Rock Resort, the company said today.

The store will be the fifth Trader Joe’s in the valley and is expected to open in the second half of the year. A more exact opening date was not provided.

The 1.6 million-square-foot Shops at Summerlin spent years as a poster child for Las Vegas’ building bust but is now scheduled to be completed near the end of the year.

Former owner General Growth Properties mothballed the project in October 2008. Current developer Howard Hughes Corp., a spin-off from General Growth, resumed construction last year.

Expected retailers include Macy’s, Dillard’s, Nordstrom Rack, Michael Kors, Old Navy and Sur La Table.
