New York’s Halal Guys heading to Las Vegas; Henderson to welcome bakery

The line of customers at the Halal Guys in New York City stretches down the sidewalk at 1 a.m., June 21, 2014.

The Halal Guys. It’s like the Eiffel Tower — chances are if you haven’t been there yourself, you know someone who has or you’ve seen an ungodly number of Instagram photos of it.

The food is legendary. It’s delicious. And it’s coming to Las Vegas.

Also arriving in the valley is a bakery that makes its delicacies from scratch. Honestly, what could be better than a warm, fresh pastry?

On the Strip, tourists and locals who use medical marijuana can stay on the famous stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard if they need to stop by a dispensary.

Meanwhile, one sushi bar at the Cosmopolitan is set to close only to make room for another one.

    • The Halal Guys

It’s always rush hour at the Halal Guys.

Stand on 53rd Street across from the Hilton in New York City at any time of the day, and without fail you’ll see a winding line of hungry customers waiting to devour a plate of chicken, gyro and falafel over rice. The only thing longer than this line is the traffic.

The Halal Guys have been in business since 1990, operating from a silver food cart that looks much like the hundreds stationed on every corner of Manhattan.

In 2014, the food-cart fave became a fast-food chain, and this summer, the guys are coming to Vegas. The first location in the valley is set to open in Chinatown at 3755 Spring Mountain Road, Suite 101.

You’ll get to savor the perfectly charred chicken, the soft pita bread, the delicious rice and the sauce — the zesty sauce that has mesmerized so many customers.

      Three more months to go.

    • Kneaders Bakery & Cafe

      There’s nothing like a warm, fresh-out-of-the-oven pastry.

Come April, Kneaders Bakery & Cafe will be serving these fresh delights and plenty more in Henderson. The shop will be located on 11271 Eastern Ave., near Anthem Parkway.

Customers will be able to enjoy 42 different pastries, gourmet salads, soups and 12 artisan breads.

The bakery first started in 1997 in Utah. Gary and Colleen Worthington set off making artisanal European-style breads. When business took off, the couple expanded their menu. Today, there are 35 locations in five states.

Kneaders Bakery & Cafe will be open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays.

    • Essence Vegas

One month after opening its first location in the West, Essence Vegas opened its second medical marijuana shop in the valley on March 9.

The dispensary, named Essence Vegas — The Strip Dispensary, is located at 2307 Las Vegas Blvd. South., near Sahara Avenue.

Customers can choose from a selection of 20 premium strains, vape pens, topicals and oils, and edibles.

Because Essence Vegas is also a treatment facility, patients have the option of learning how medical marijuana could help them with conditions like chronic pain and epilepsy.

The dispensary is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

    • Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill

Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at the Cosmopolitan will reportedly close temporarily to make room for Zuma, a London sushi restaurant.

Blue Ribbon opened in 2010 on the third level of the Strip resort.

The Cosmopolitan sent out the following statement on March 11: “Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas are working together to develop an exciting new concept in the restaurant’s current location. The venue will temporarily close for these changes in late 2016 and expects to make more information available in the coming months.”

Meanwhile, construction on Zuma has started. Once it opens its doors in the fall, customers will enjoy features like a sushi counter and robata grill.
