Caesars Interactive takes over World Series of Poker mobile app

Caesars Interactive Entertainment Inc. has acquired the rights and ownership of the popular World Series of Poker mobile application.

The move comes as an effort to expand the gaming giant’s presence in free-to-play social and mobile gaming, according to Caesars Interactive spokesman Seth Palansky.

The catalyst for the deal was the acquisition of certain World Series of Poker game assets and intellectual property from Electronic Arts, Palansky said.

As part of a new agreement, EA transferred rights and ownership of its WSOP game for mobile devices and Facebook to CIE, dissolving a previous agreement.

The World Series of Poker application is now available on Facebook, the Amazon Kindle, Android devices and all iOS devices.

This deal includes the addition of a Montreal-based team of 19 employees that will form the core of the company’s new social poker development studio.

The developers will report to the company’s Playtika division, a development leader in free-to-play social games, Palansky said.
