(HENDERSON, FEB. 10) Montessori Visions Academy of Henderson announced today the formation of a new Tai Chi for Kids after-school program. The program, to be held on Mondays starting March 5 at 3:30 pm, is aimed at children age 6 and above.
"Most people mistakenly associate Tai Chi with seniors," instructor Dale Napier said. "But children can do it better, and the benefits can last a much longer lifetime."
"Tai Chi is real exercise," Academy owner Lori Bossy said, "but it is gentle, relaxing, and calming. Perfect for ending the school day."
"Tai Chi is ideal for children," Napier said. "In the past I've only taught adults, but now I want to focus on children, who are the future." Napier, author of Tai Chi In Your Life: 8 Principles That Can Change Your Life While Learning and Growing with Tai Chi, said the class will be adapted for the needs of children, including the need to include fun and play into the exercises.
"Each movement we do is associated with an animal," he said, "like a dragon, a crane, a peacock, a horse, and so on. So the kids will make masks and sounds to imitate that animal as well learn the Tai Chi movement. We'll also sneak in a little meditation in a way they will never expect."
The class is open to the public. The first session lasts until June 4. Twelve weeks are $100, or each four-week month is $40. Contact Dale Napier at [email protected], or call 713-252-3826, to pre-register. Class size is limited, so pre-registration is advised.
