Local Youth Shooting Team Wins State Competition

Local High School, Junior High and Elementary School athletes sweep the competition at the 2016 Nevada Youth Shooting Sports Association State shoot held in Fallon Nevada.

Young Athletes from Shadow Ridge, Centennial, Arbor View, Legacy High, Basic High School, Valley High school, Boulder City High School, South East Technical Academy, Agassi College Preparatory Academy & Cram Middle School traveled to Fallon June 17th and 18th to compete in the annual Trap Shooting State competition. Athletes from Fallon, Yerington, Elko, Reno, Carson City and Las Vegas were represented. The State shoot is a Team and Individual competition.

Las Vegas' Varsity Division consisting of Jacob Eval, Jack Evans, Gage Hanley, Tristan Navajo and Cameron Pink scored a 905 out of 1,000 targets to take home 1st place Varsity. Our Junior Varsity consisting of Jadin Loy, Billy Burton, Seth Hurst, Christian Burnhard and Ryan Loy captured 1st place honors with an 851 x 1000 over Las Vegas' second place Junior Varsity Team of Mason Pope, Wyatt Grange, Christopher Steingrebe, Rachel Watson and Zachery Christensen who scored an 847 x 1000 targets .

As to individual awards, Jacob Eval took 1st place Varsity with a 197 x 200 along with High Over All. Jadin Loy dominated the Junior Varsity division with a 194 x 200 with Mason Pope capturing 3rd place with a 184 x 200.

Silver State Claybreakers Head coach Joe Hanley stated all of our young athletes gave it their all with practices every Thursday night for 2 months prior to the tournament. Coach Hanley also stated that without the support of our sponsors parents and assistant coaches, (Jeff Lewis, Donnette Lewis, Lance Hurst, Matthew Steingrebe, Ashlee Hill and Mike Reese) our success would not be possible.

What's next?? The U. S. Open Junior World Shoot July 7th and 8th at Clark County Shooting complex. Over 352 young shooters will vie for team and individual awards in Trap, skeet and Sporting Clays.
