LAS VEGAS, NV -- (February 15, 2012) – Food 4 Less, the nation’s largest price-impact supermarket chain, has teamed up with Nevada Health Centers to offer low to no cost breast cancer screenings at selected Food 4 Less locations through the Centers’ Mammovan program.
The Nevada Health Center Mammovan is a mobile mammography van designed to travel to underserved areas of the state to provide mammogram screenings to geographically isolated and/or uninsured women who would otherwise not seek out the service on their own.
The program was made possible in part from a $10,000 grant from Food 4 Less to Nevada Health Centers.
The Mammovan will be offering breast cancer screenings at the following Food 4 Less locations throughout the year:
• February 23 – Food 4 Less #794 – 2255 Las Vegas Blvd. North, North Las Vegas
• March 6 – Food 4 Less #798 – 4965 E. Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas
• March 7 - Food 4 Less #799 – 8180 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas
• May 1 – Food 4 Less #799 – 8180 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas
• June 5 – Food 4 Less #785 – 1301 S. Boulder Hwy, Henderson
• June 14 – Food 4 Less #790 – 4001 S. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas
• August 16 – Food 4 Less #514 – 1955 N. Nellis Blvd., Las Vegas
• September 4 – Food 4 Less #785 – 1301 S. Boulder Hwy, Henderson
• November 21 – Food 4 Less #794 – 2255 Las Vegas Blvd. North, North Las Vegas
The Mammovan program involves extensive community outreach efforts designed to break down barriers created by additional factors such as lack of education, difficulties with language, and differences in cultural belief systems. The Mammovan seeks to serve the underserved population, targeting women age 40 and over. The Mammovan also provides services for women under 40, who are physician referred. The Unit has provided more than 30,000 mammograms and diagnosed 113 women with breast cancer. Many of these women would not have been diagnosed if it were not for the Mammovan.
“Food 4 Less has a firm commitment to give back to the communities that our stores serve,” said Bryan Kaltenbach, president of Food 4 Less/Foods Co. “Through our partnership with Nevada Health Centers, we can make a difference in the health of women by offering an easy, convenient and affordable way to get important breast cancer screenings.”
Food 4 Less’ partnership with Nevada Health Centers dates back to 2008 when the company first began its sponsorship of the Mammovan. Since then, the Mammovan has performed breast cancer screenings at several Food 4 Less stores in the greater Las Vegas area.
