Las Vegas Native Named Finalist in Elite Music Competition

Good Afternoon-
On Feb. 25, Las Vegas, native Anthony Trionfo will compete on flute in the final round of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band Concerto Competition. Anthony, a junior at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, was selected from an application pool of nearly 100 high school musicians from across the country. There are seven finalists competing this year. The finals will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. in John Philip Sousa Band Hall at the Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C., where Anthony will perform Theobald Boehm’s Grand Polonaise in D, Opus 16. The day prior, Anthony will participate in a coaching session with a Marine Band soloist.

About the Competition
“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, in conjunction with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), presents the annual concerto competition for high school musicians. The winner will appear as a guest soloist with the U.S. Marine Band on its March 25 concert and receive a $2,500 cash prize from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.

The Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as “The President’s Own” since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
