Nevada Department of Agriculture kicks off Weights and Measures Week with the Governor’s Cabinet Meeting

Sparks, NV 02-27-2012- The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) Bureau of Weights and Measures will celebrate Weights and Measures week from March 1 to March 7, 2012.
The week begins at the same time as a convening of Governor Brian Sandoval’s cabinet members at the main office of the NDA.
“We plan on showcasing a few of the bureau’s trucks and other devices to give the Governor and the other state department directors an idea of the complexity and importance of weights and measures regulation,” said Ed Foster, the spokesperson for the NDA.
To honor the work done by the bureau of the NDA, the Nevada Governor’s office will release a proclamation for the week.
A similar proclamation was issued in 1985 by Governor Richard H. Bryan.
“The Bureau of Weights and Measures…continues to play an ever increasing role in the state’s expanding economy to ensure equity in all commercial transactions for the protection of all citizens,” Bryan said.
According to David Jones, the administrator for the Division of Measurement Standards at the NDA, the Bureau of Weights and Measures tests all measurement devices to make sure they accurately measure the weights, flow and market scanner accuracy, which they display. These devices include fuel pumps, cash register scales, truck scales and other devices used to measure any product sold to a consumer.
Jones also said the bureau strives to eliminate issues as soon as they become apparent.
“We proactively test, certify and inspect all business transaction device systems and equipment,” Jones said adding that the bureau plans to continue using a high level of standards and to work closely with the state businesses.
“Moving forward, the Division of Measurement Standards, Bureau of Weights and Measures, continues to support the Governor’s economic development plan through market equitability and program initiatives,” Jones said.
