KNOW WHAT TO DO BEFORE A CRISIS HITS
Caesars Hospitality Research Center to Host Informational Summit
LAS VEGAS, NEV. May 8, 2013 – It can happen in an instant – a fire, a flood, an act of terrorism. We prepare, we write plans, we train employees but what happens at the decision-making level when a crisis occurs? Do you know the proper steps to take? These moments can make the difference between life and death and you can never be too prepared. Join the Caesars Hospitality Research Center (CHRC) at its 2013 Summit, Crisis Management in the Hospitality Industry, on May 30 at UNLV.
This year’s summit topic was chosen to ensure that the industry maintain an active dialogue on the critical and timely issue of crisis management. “There are varying levels of disaster readiness throughout the industry,” said Dr. Tony Henthorne, associate dean of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the CHRC’s director. “Our goal is to provide information and generate ideas so that when a crisis does happen, guests and employees are protected, damage to property is mitigated, and business resumes as quickly as possible.”
The Summit is a one-day conference with four speaker sessions, a lunch keynote speaker, and a disaster simulation experience. Hosted by the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, the home of the CHRC, the day will provide attendees with an opportunity to experience the unimaginable.
Who Should Attend the Summit
• CEOs, managers, and owners of hospitality companies
• Security department personnel
• Human resources personnel
• Public relations professionals
• Crisis management consultants
• Related service/product providers
• Researchers studying the topic of crisis management
• Regulatory and government officials

• First responders
The keynote address will be provided by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Captain Al Salinas, who also serves as the director of the Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center. Other speakers include representatives from government crisis management agencies; disaster preparedness consultants; communications professionals, and first responders. The afternoon’s simulation will involve the problem-solving activities of an unfolding disaster, based on recent actual events. Attendees, working in teams, will be led through a choreographed disaster workshop by emergency preparedness trainers.
