Award winning local children's band Michael Darby and Smile team up with Clark County School District to stop bullying! Michael Darby and Smile's goal is to reach children when they are a blank canvas. The band/anti- bullying authors want to stop the problem before it starts. They accomplish this with a show/program that leads by example teaching children to discover the best part of who they are and who they can become. The age group they dominate is K-3rd grade and when we say dominate we mean dominate. There is no show on earth like the Michael Darby and smile show. The band comes with a world class performance that will lift your children up when they are down and push your children higher when they are almost there. Children leave the Michael Darby and Smile show educated ,motivated and confident they can create a safe learning environment for their classroom and school.
Michael is not your normal child performer, he is also a past Olympic Training Center greco roman wrestling athlete who has used his leverage in wrestling to gain support from some of the toughest men in the world. (Five Time Heavy-weight Boxing World Champion Evander Holyfield,UFC World Champion Georges St-Pierre, UFC World Champion BJ Penn,NFL Outside Line Backer Bryan Kehl,Olympic Gold Medalist Cael Sanderson,NFL Super Bowl Champion Carl Banks,Eleven Time All-Star NBA Player and Two Time Olympic Gold Medalist Charles Barkley ,UFC Fighter, NCAA Division I Wrestling All American Chael Sonnen, Greco-Roman Wrestling World Champion and Pan American World Champion Joe Warren, Champion of the World and international boxing legend Larry Holmes. One of the only fighters to beat Muhammad Ali., UFC Fighter Nate Diaz, Strikeforce Welterweight World Champion and UFC Fighter Nick Diaz and Grappling World Champion Brandon Ruiz.) Michael believes that if the toughest men in world take a stand against bullying everyone else will follow. He also believes in takes a team of people to make a powerful difference in a child's life. Michael says,"Teachers and parents are the real hero's of this country and they will be the ones to reclaim our nations schools as a safe place to learn."
As a child Michael was picked on daily. He was bullied at school and he was bullied at home. He was taught he was worthless. He was taught he was a lost cause and he was taught that when he grew up he would never amount to anything. Once Michael earned a victory over one of the world best wrestlers at the Olympic training Center people stopped picking on him, but the 6'6" 300 pound wrestler knows it wasn't always this way. Michael says, "I think of myself as a redwood tree. When I was put in the ground I was tall, skinny and awkward. Then I filled out. I don't want children to go through what I went through and I'm willing to do what ever it takes to do my part to stop bullying. I had two teachers in public school that literally saved my life. One of the teachers knew my situation was so bad he choose to let me move into his house with his family so I could finish my studies. Even though I was picked on daily, teachers showed me that American schools are powerful. Teachers showed me that American schools are a place you don't give up in, and teachers taught me that I could be anything I wanted to be when I grew up. Well, I grew up and what I've decided to be is an advocate for safe learning environments. Every time we do an assembly K-3rd grades let me know how amazing life is. As teachers,parents and advocates it is our job to make sure they never forget it."
