Press Release

Help Wanted

This year the Civil Air Patrol will celebrate its 71st birthday. Nellis Senior Squadron, consisting of 36 men and women, will participate in that celebration as they continue to donate their time and resources to provide support services to communities. Some of the services this group provides include search and rescue for missing or overdue aircraft; radio watch standing; teaching boating safety classes; providing free courtesy boat checks; working with high school counselors to identify students eligible for scholarship appointments to the Coast Guard Academy; other marine safety support activities and more.

Civil Air Patrol members are not paid for their time, service, uniforms, or equipment. Volunteers spend many hours training, learning, practicing and qualifying prior to working in these specialty areas. Members are not only trained, but also very committed to this community service organization.

I’d like to thank all of the members who dedicate their time and resources to provide their community with these valuable services. Anyone 18 years or older and interested in learning more about this group should contact Major Mark Goodman, Nellis Senior Squadron Recruiting and Retention Officer at 702-358- 0279.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 61,000 members nationwide, operating a fleet of 550 aircraft. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 54 lives in fiscal year 2011. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to nearly 27,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. CAP received the World Peace Prize in 2011 and has been performing missions for America for 70 years. CAP also participates in Wreaths Across America, an initiative to remember, honor and teach about the sacrifices of U.S. military veterans.
