UNLV's Schaeffer fellow and poet and Nevada's Poetry OutLoud winner combine forces at poetry workshop in celebration of National Poetry Month

When high school senior Amanda Titolo won the Nevada Poetry OutLoud Competition in Reno, March 24, 2012, she took home $1,000.00, a taste for winning and a trip to Washington DC to compete in the National Finals this May. The Poetry Foundation and the Nevada Arts Council also awarded her school, College of Southern Nevada High School – West, $1000 to use towards the promotion of poetry.
CSNHS is using the money to fund a poetry workshop for the graduating senior English classes. This workshop, provided by Erica Anzalone, an MFA from the esteemed writing program at University of Iowa, the Schaeffer Fellow and PhD candidate at UNLV, and a regular contributor to the Nevada poetry scene, will be held April 25 – 27 on the campus of the College of Southern Nevada. Anzalone’s manuscript Samsara won the Noemi Press’ first book prize and is due out this year.
The Poetry Foundation and the Nevada Arts Council will be funding this workshop for seniors, an event that seems especially tailored to April, the National Poetry Month. Amanda Titolo will be attending the poetry workshop on Thursday, 4/16 from 3:30 – 4:45 and on Friday from 2:15 – 3:00. The students’ culminating event will be Sidewalk Poetry on the sidewalks of the CSN campus April 30th and May 1st.
