Albertsons & Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman To Announce Earth Day Youth Contest Winners & Celebrate Store's Environmental Milestone On April 30

FULLERTON, CA (April 25, 2012) -- For Las Vegas ALBERTSONS stores, Earth Day 2012 was definitely a reason to celebrate! Earlier this month, ALBERTSONS announced that 30 of its stores in the greater Las Vegas area, Henderson and Boulder achieved a major environmental milestone: diverting over 90 percent of all store waste from local landfills. Accomplished through an innovative approach of recycling, organic composting and food donations, these stores combined to keep 21,170,340 million pounds of waste out of local landfills and donate 3.5 million meals to local food bank and hunger relief efforts in the past year alone.

To celebrate the occasion, the banner sponsored an Earth Day contest – “How My Family Reduces, Reuses and Recycles” for Las Vegas students in grades K-6th. The winners have been chosen and Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman will join the Albertsons operators for a brief ceremony to announce the winners and present each local artist with a $150 ALBERTSONS gift card for their family. The event will also offer the opportunity to gather more information on the milestone environmental achievements of area ALBERTSONS stores.
