FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Upcoming Workplace Bullying Documentary
LAS VEGAS, Nevada. – “Workplace bullying?” Bullying happening to adults? Isn’t bullying something that happens on the rusted bars of a schoolyard playground? Don’t we leave it behind when we receive our high school diploma and become an “adult?” This is what we are led to believe, but the truth is, bullying happens well beyond the confines of school. It has pervaded our workplaces. One would be hard-pressed to find an adult who hasn’t been a victim, or witness, of bullying in the workplace. Studiolv2, a local Las Vegas graphics and film company, has an anti-bullying documentary in the works in an effort to spread the word about this lesser-known type of bullying. The documentary discusses the factors and consequences of bullying, while looking for solutions to this far-reaching, and very real, problem.
“School-age targets of bullying lack the resources to fight bullies and their sycophantic buddies. Targets are perceived by bullies as weak or different. Adult targets are selected more frequently on the basis of some strength-based threat – skill, likeability, morality – as perceived by perpetrators.”
–Dr. Gary Namie, Director of Workplace Bullying Institute in Bellingham, Washington.
An estimated 54 million Americans report being bullied at work.
71% of bullied targets report having been treated by a physician for work- related symptom including hypertension, irritable bowel disease, migraine headaches, anxiety and PTSD.
5% of employers have adequately addressed workplace bullying in their place business.
In 81% of cases, the employer participates in the bullying.
(Research Studies and polls 2012, workplacebullying.org)
Studiolv2 is looking to expose the crisis of workplace bullying to as many people as possible, with the end result being a way to stop this type of abuse. By creating this documentary, Studiolv2 is hoping to open discussions and pathways to getting legislation passed to give victims legal protection from workplace bullying. Studiolv2 believes that no one should have to work in an environment full of abuse, hostility, and harassment.
