Grifols is building a plasma donor center in North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas, Nevada (March 31, 2014), Grifols is building a Biomat USA, Inc. plasma donor center in North Las Vegas. The 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is the latest addition to Grifols’ extensive plasma collection network. Grifols is a global healthcare company that produces life-saving plasma medicines for people with rare, chronic and life-threatening conditions.
Plasma donated at Grifols plasma donor centers is used to produce important therapies out of human plasma for people with serious conditions, such as immune deficiencies, rare neurological disorder, bleeding disorders, a genetic form of emphysema, and to treat shock, trauma, and burns. To ensure an adequate supply of plasma, Grifols operates the largest network of plasma donation centers in the world that includes approximately 150 centers in the United States.
Grifols is investing approximately $1.1 million in the construction and setup of the center, whose design will eventually incorporate new industry technologies including Donor Doc, a donor self-registration platform that helps improve donor screening efficiency. Over the next several years, the donor center’s goal is to accommodate up to 2,000 donors per week to help further Grifols’ mission of meeting the demand for life-saving medicines to treat patients worldwide.
Grifols will ultimately contribute over $6.2 million each year to the local economy through payroll and other operating expenses. When the center opens in late spring it will employ 24 people from the local area, with expectations to increase to 60 employees as the center expands its operations. The majority of the positions will be full-time employment, ranging from entry-level jobs for individuals with a high-school diploma seeking career opportunities in the healthcare field to medically-trained professionals.
