Business owners and community leaders showcase steps they're taking to make Nevada a leader in energy efficiency

LAS VEGAS, NV. – Local business owners, community leaders, and elected officials will gather to highlight a broad range of businesses and organizations taking steps towards energy efficiency on Friday, May 2, beginning at 5PM, during First Friday downtown.

Some of the participants in the discussion include business owner Jenna Morton, Eric Dominguez, Corporate Director Engineering, Utilities & Environmental Affairs for Caesars Entertainment, Michael Litt from the Clean Energy Project, Chris Brooks from Bombard Renewable Energy, Clark County School Board Trustee Chris Garvey, and Neil Roth, President & Chief Operating Officer of Xtreme Green Products, Inc. and representatives from the City of Las Vegas. There will also be information for attendees to gather about local businesses helping this effort while enjoying the speaking program and live music.

As temperatures increase in Nevada, businesses are looking for efficient ways to help reduce Nevada's contribution to climate change, the impacts of which are felt during increasingly hotter summers. According to the Center for Integrative Environmental Research at the University of Maryland, “By 2100, the average temperatures for Nevada are expected to increase by 3-4°F in the spring and fall and by 5-6°F in the summer and winter (EPA report 1998).

Nevada’s economy will also be affected by the availability of water resources. According to the Center for Integrative Environmental Research at the University of Maryland, “In the future, Nevada’s economy will be most affected by the availability of water resources. Adequate water resources are relied upon to provide drinking water, recreation and hydroelectric power to the State’s growing population. Some two million people in Las Vegas alone depend on Lake Mead for daily water needs and the Hoover Dam provides energy to roughly 1.3 million people in Nevada, Arizona, and California (US Bureau of Reclamation 2006).”
