SpoonerSpot.com prepares to exit beta and fully launch into the social networking space

Las Vegas based startup, CitySpoon Inc., is preparing to officially launch SpoonerSpot (SpoonerSpot.com), a new social networking platform that lets you “put your life on the map”. Designed to bridge the gap between the virtual world and the real, the new social network lets users “Spot” places, displaying them on an interactive world map for their followers to see. SpoonerSpot began its beta testing phase in March, and has used feedback from its beta testing community to develop and redevelop the user experience, eventually reaching the easy to use platform available today. CitySpoon’s team is now going through an extensive period of “cleanup” as the site exits its beta phase and prepares to be launched to a global audience.

CitySpoon Inc. began as an online coupon website (CitySpoon.com), founded by a small team in Las Vegas, NV. That idea has since grown and evolved, passing through a creative phase that allowed coupon users (called Spooners) to share the locations of hot deals in their towns with other members of the site. The project eventually evolved into a new take on geographic social networking, allowing users to share any place on the globe, along with their own experiences and stories; this was the birth of SpoonerSpot.

SpoonerSpot, the culmination of several ideas from the CitySpoon team, is the next step in social networking. The site brings a creative focus on location based social media. Once registered, users simply go anywhere in the world via the site’s built in map, be it a country, state or house, and create a Spot using the convenient Spot bubble that follows each user’s navigation. Spots can contain titles, pictures, notes, or any combination. Once saved the other Spooners that follow the user will see that user’s Spots on their map when they log in, along with the Spots of the other users they follow as well. In addition, users can see the most recent Spots of the users they follow in a convenient (and traditional to social media) timeline format, as well as a tool to see their own Spots and the most recent Spots of all users throughout the entire site.

Feedback from beta users of SpoonerSpot has allowed the site to increase its overall User Experience, continuously creating an even more engaging social networking platform. Beta user demand has given the team insights that has led to a notification system, so users can be updated on recent changes in their SpoonerSpot social network, a more robust layout that brings all of the site’s features to the forefront of the experience, and an easy to use method of finding friends on SpoonerSpot by searching for either user name or first and last name.

As finishing touches are put on these and many other features, SpoonerSpot is preparing to move beyond its current beta testing phase and launch itself as a fulfilling website within the social networking genre. The team at CitySpoon, the creative group working endlessly to bring SpoonerSpot to a wider audience, is spending the next few days working extensively to make sure SpoonerSpot’s key features are working properly. Additional updates are still in store for the site even after the site launches its full platform, but this big step for SpoonerSpot brings a strong and stable setting for geographic micro-blogging, the site’s core function. The official roll out for SpoonerSpot.com will be taking place at the end of this week, with more updates to come out throughout the second half of 2012.
