MUSICAL VARIETY GROUP FROM L.A. TO PLAY THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY
Return Engagement brings National A Cappella Champions to Three Venues
The Perfect Gentlemen, the 2002 National A Cappella Champions, will headline three shows over the last weekend in February in Henderson and Las Vegas. Opening the weekend will be a 6:00pm show in Henderson at Sun City MacDonald Ranch, followed by return engagements for the group at the Starbright Theatre in Las Vegas on Saturday at 7:00pm, and a private matinee performance for residents of Sun City Anthem at 3:00pm on Sunday at Freedom Hall in Henderson. This will be a family friendly concert filled with great harmony and humor. The group previously performed at the Starbright Theatre and at Freedom Hall in Sun City Anthem in August 2009.
Keeping the spirit of vaudeville alive, The Perfect Gentlemen recreate the close vocal harmonies of such legendary groups as The Ink Spots and the Pied Pipers. But what sets the group apart from other vocal groups is its ability to bring different characters to life while performing the era’s great comic songs made famous by the likes of Louis Jordan and The Hoosier Hotshots, including some original comedic material by the group’s own baritone, Tim Reeder. Their signature routine, called Salute to the 20th Century, is a humorous take on the de-evolution of music over the last century, illustrated by singing one song in the following musical styles: Barbershop, Dixieland, Blues, Big Band, Doo-Wop, Bluegrass, Disco, Techno Punk, and Rap, complete with quick costume and wig changes in front of its audience, creating characters that delight audiences of all ages.
The Perfect Gentlemen is made up of Dan Jordan, second tenor; Tim Reeder, baritone; Jim Campbell, bass, and first tenor, Phil Gold. Formed in 1998, The Perfect Gentlemen has performed on stages all over the U.S., opened for Jay Leno, made several concert tours to the United Kingdom and Brazil, and performed on numerous cruise ships for lines around the world. Last year the group was seen in a series of commercials in Japan for the Japanese company Suntory.
While a cappella singing is part of their act, the group sings many period songs accompanied by their baritone’s masterful tenor guitar and ukulele accompaniment. The group is also skilled at playing the Deagan Organ Chimes, a rare long lost instrument from the days of Vaudeville.
”Be prepared to be subjected to a musical evening equivalent of a Johnny Carson ”Tonight Show” monologue,” says Stephen Connolly, the bass singer for the venerable vocal group, The King’s Singers. ”The (group’s) ensemble is tight, the humor flows… they have fun, the audience has fun… it’s a winning combination.”
While entertaining is the primary mission of The Perfect Gentlemen, the group also strongly believes in arts education for school age children. In an effort begun six years ago, the group wrote and now performs their original show called 100 Years of Harmony for five different arts education organizations, including the Los Angeles Music Center and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, among others. Since 2007, the group has visited 147 different schools, performing their show 252 times. They are available for assembly performance bookings on Friday, February 24th should a local school in the valley be interested in bringing them out to their school – just visit: www.theperfectgentlemen.us
The Perfect Gentlemen have released three recordings: Beside Ourselves (1999), Style! (2000), and Room Service (2003/2008), along with a concert DVD: “Live!” in Paradise (2006). Their singing voices can also be heard as belonging to ghostly miners on Mystery Mine, a thrill ride at the Dollywood theme park in Tennessee, and to four animated bioluminescent fish in the Deepo’s Undersea 3-D Wonder Show at the Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta. They had a national television commercial running for GameStop in conjunction with the release of the video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. They have also performed with Justin Timberlake on the ESPY Awards on ESPN and sang on an episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels on A&E.;
Tickets for the Friday evening show at Sun City MacDonald Ranch are $15.00, with MacDonald Ranch residents getting a $3.00 discount. For more information, please call (702) 270-7000. Tickets for the Saturday evening show at the Starbright Theatre are $18.00, with Summerlin residents receiving a $3.00 discount.
