Golden Rainbow Continues Mission To Provide HIV/AIDS Awareness And Education By Raising $227,000 And Helping More Than 500 Clients In 2011

LAS VEGAS – In its 25th year serving Southern Nevada with HIV/AIDS awareness and education, Golden Rainbow raised $227,000 and helped more than 500 clients live healthier, happier lives in 2011.

As a result of 2011 fundraising efforts, Golden Rainbow provided 7,413 nights of shelter, 1,178 days of utility assistance, 1,620 days of transportation and medical and dental assistance to more than 500 households.

“We are thrilled to announce our 2011 successes,” said Lea Carrasco-Zanini, executive director of Golden Rainbow. “We would like to thank Southern Nevada and our donors and sponsors for supporting Golden Rainbow’s mission to provide services to those in need. We look forward to partnering with the community in 2012.”

Leading all fundraising efforts, “Ribbon of Life” drew a record-setting crowd with 1,158 people in attendance and collected more than $160,000, topping the previous year by $30,000. Hit acts included “Everything I Am” by PEEPSHOW headliner and co-star of E!’s “Holly’s World” Josh Strickland, “The Color Purple” by the cast of THE LION KING, “Footloose” by Human Nature and Clint Holmes’ rendition of “West Side Story,” which earned a standing ovation from the crowd. This summer, Golden Rainbow will present “Ribbon of Life” for the first time in its new home, The Smith Center for Performing Arts on Sunday, June 24. Ticket, casting and sponsorship information will be announced soon.

RagTag Entertainment’s benefit productions including “RENT,” “Side by Side by Sondheim” and “Sweeney Todd” generated more than $15,000 for the nonprofit. The entertainment company plans to present “Take off With Us,” a tribute to Bob Fosse, on Feb. 14, 21 and 28 with proceeds benefiting Golden Rainbow.

Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino provided additional support last year. The center held a month-long fountain fundraiser in December 2011 for Golden Rainbow. Proceeds were used to provide families with bus transportation passes. During the fountain collection, Miracle Mile Shops also held a holiday lights drive for the nonprofit to help brighten the season for Golden Rainbow families unable to afford décor.
