BEACON ACADEMY OF NEVADA CELEBRATES MOVING INTO ITS NEW FACILITIES
Nevada’s Online High School showcases its unique support and services offered to youth of Nevada
Beacon Academy of Nevada was granted a charter in 2008 by the Nevada State Board of Education to provide an online learning alternative to all of the youth of Nevada with an emphasis of offering options to students at risk of dropping out of high school that were previously unavailable.
In its four years of operation, Beacon Academy has developed a unique and innovative program that has shattered the myths and stereotypes often attached to the concept of virtual education, specifically that this method of education renders its participants to a lonely existence with no social interactions with their peers or teachers and no support to deal with the underlying issues that may a detriment to their academic and career success.
Services that Beacon provides at no cost to its participants and their families include social services through Beacon’s Center For Health and Learning and its partnership with UNLV School of Social Work and the University of Phoenix. Other services offered through this partnership include therapeutic counseling and mentorships as well as free live tutoring from Beacon Faculty and UNLV student volunteers.
In addition to these services, Beacon offers a myriad of activities for its students in both Northern and Southern Nevada including live and virtual clubs, bowling and hiking outings, dances and many other events that offer Beacon’s students the opportunity to be as sociable as they wish, all in a safe environment free from bullying and many of the other issues that arise in a traditional high school and may act as an obstacle to success.
Beacon Academy is very proud that it has attained Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) over the past two years, a primary indicator of quality and success under No Child Left Behind.
Given its success over the past four years, Beacon Academy has recently moved into new facilities that will allow for more support and activities under one roof for its Southern Nevada students, and will be hosting a reception for its educational and community partners and friends on August 27 at 7:00 PM. Beacon’s Governing Body as well as its faculty and staff will be on hand to offer more information on these programs.
Mission Statement: Beacon Academy of Nevada offers students the choice of a relevant and innovative education which provides the freedom, flexibility and support to learn and achieve for a lifetime.
