Allegiant becomes official airline of NFL’s Colts

An Allegiant Air jet takes off from McCarran International Airport on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.

When the Las Vegas Raiders host the Indianapolis Colts later this year, it will be a big day for locally-based Allegiant Air.

Allegiant today announced a deal to become the official airline of the Colts.

The airline also last year secured naming rights to Allegiant Stadium, the $2 billion venue going up just west of Mandalay Bay where the Raiders will play home games starting this year.

Financial terms for the multi-year deal were not disclosed.

“Sports travel is the ultimate leisure travel,” Scott DeAngelo, Allegiant’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “We’re always looking for ways to connect fans to the cities where they can see their favorite teams play. Being the official airline of the Colts allows us to give fans a next-level experience through special promotions, player appearances, fan activations and more.”

As part of the agreement, the upper terrace level of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, where the Colts play home games, will be called the Allegiant Terrace Level, the airline said.

Allegiant has about 1,500 employees in the Las Vegas Valley and about 4,100 companywide. The airline employs about 80 people at its Indianapolis base of operations.

The airline offers twice-weekly nonstop service between Las Vegas and Indianapolis.

The Raiders know they will host the Colts at Allegiant Stadium for a regular season game in 2020, but the NFL has not announced dates and times for games.
