Strip workers can use monorail during Formula One road disruptions

The Las Vegas Monorail

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board approved $55,000 on Tuesday to provide monorail transportation for Strip employees whose commute is affected by Formula One race setup disruptions in the fall.

Employees will qualify if they work between Russell Road to the south and St. Louis Avenue to the north. The western edge of the boundary is defined by Frank Sinatra Boulevard and Davis Jr. Drive while Joe W. Brown Drive and South University Center Drive mark the east, according to the agreement.

The monorail, for those with a local identification, normally runs $1 per ride — or $10 for a five-day work week.

Travel in and out of the Strip during race construction has been burdensome for some local workers in the two years of the event.

Some properties already provided their workers with monorail passes. Other workers took a shuttle bus originating in the Las Vegas Convention Center parking lot.

“I represent tons of people that work on that Strip — tons of people, day in and day out that are fighting the traffic, that have no direction,” Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick said in 2023. “They don’t know how long it might take them on any particular day.”
