Las Vegas-based Shuffle Master sets record quarterly profit

Las Vegas-based gaming supplier Shuffle Master Inc. on Wednesday reported a record quarterly profit as casinos in Australia stepped up purchases and leases of its products. Shuffle Master said revenue during its third quarter ended July 31 increased 13 percent to $58.3 million.

New-look Plaza ready to reopen its doors downtown

After nine months of renovations, the Plaza downtown is ready to reopen its doors Thursday, boasting 1,037 remodeled hotel rooms, a revamped 80,000-square-foot casino floor and new hotel lobby. Michael Pergolini, vice president of hotel operations, said that when the Plaza closed in November, the renovation was not expected to be as extensive as it turned out.

A proposed regulation to divert most of the money from unredeemed slot machine tickets to the state took another step forward Tuesday. The state Gaming Control Board held a workshop on the preliminary regulation that could mean millions dollars more for the state treasury. Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli said he was surprised no one showed up to testify about the proposal. The proposal drew spirited opposition from the Nevada Resort Association and other casino representatives during the last Legislature.

The Nevada Gaming Commission on Thursday amended its regulation for licensing small casinos, placing more requirements on establishments like the Dotty’s chain. The amended regulation will require slot parlors like Dotty’s to build new amenities within two years to maintain their licenses. Dotty’s caters primarily to women who don’t like traditional bars and taverns.
