Las Vegas residents have a new option for crossing the valley thanks to the opening today of a bridge connecting Sunset Road over Interstate 15. Officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the bridge Thursday morning and it opened to traffic about noon. The bridge offers a new east-west route across I-15 but doesn’t have access to the freeway.

Horses were long ago replaced as the preferred method of transportation in Las Vegas, but it wasn’t until Friday that Horse Drive was given a proper freeway interchange on U.S. 95 in the northwest valley. The new $44 million interchange was opened by city officials after about 18 months of construction, giving nearby residents better access to the freeway and reducing congestion on Durango Drive.
