The search for a 35-year-old Chicago man who went missing Thursday at Lake Mead was called off Friday afternoon after high winds made conditions dangerous for those trying to find the man's body. By 7 a.m., park rangers began searching the surface and shoreline near Sentinal Island, where the man was last seen Thursday afternoon after jumping into the water without a lifejacket, park spokeswoman Christie Vanover said. Witnesses reported seeing the man struggle before disappearing.

The Legislature passed a bill in the final moments of its special session on Tuesday that would allow North Las Vegas to take money from its sewer and utility funds and use it to restore some of its dwindling services. Money typically spent on sewer and utility projects could be used to bolster the libraries, provide more overtime hours for firefighters and open up Craig Ranch Park, which the city hopes will bring in additional revenue.
