Approximately 40 homes in North Las Vegas are without water after a residential water main broke on Ellis Street early Tuesday afternoon, North Las Vegas spokeswoman Juliet Casey said. Casey said the eight-inch underground pipe broke around 1:45 p.m., and began gushing water down the residential street near Cary and Haddock Avenues for nearly an hour.

Kami Dempsey wants the phrase “90 by 20” to be in the back of Southern Nevada residents’ minds whenever water is used. She wants them to think about it when they water their lawn, brush their teeth and refill a glass from the tap. She wants them to know water can disappear, but they can help prevent the evaporation of water resources by remembering “90 gallons per capita per day by 2020.” Dempsey is the Southern Nevada coordinator for the “90 by 20” water conservation campaign that targets residential water usage in Colorado River Basin cities. The campaign’s goal is for each home in those cities to limit per capita water usage to 90 gallons per day by 2020.

News helicopters circled around him and the 100-degree summer heat emanated from the windows. His life rested in the hands of an 800-foot rope and his fellow firefighters on the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Technical Rescue Team working the equipment to lower him. Below him, four window washers waited, stranded outside the 35th floor in a window washer’s basket. Their fate and safety rested in his hands.

A convicted Las Vegas pimp was sentenced to 13 life prison terms Tuesday for his conviction on a litany of counts, including kidnapping, battery, coercion and pandering with force. Clark County District Judge Elissa Cadish found Raymond Sharpe, 48, was a habitual offender and sentenced him to 13 life terms, 10 of which would run concurrently. On one of the life sentences, for first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, Cadish stipulated Sharpe serve his term without the possibility of parole. The other sentences carry the possibility of parole after 10 years.
