After compromising with Arizona and federal government officials, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced plans Tuesday to temporarily ban some trucks — but not all — from U.S. 93 in Boulder City. The new rules will only reroute large southbound trucks on U.S. 93 during construction times.

The price of gasoline in Nevada fell this month for the first time since September, according to AAA numbers released today. The Silver State’s average price for a gallon of gas is $3.72, a drop of 22 cents from last month, but still up 85 cents from a year ago when the average was $2.87, the auto club said.

Las Vegas has seen a lot of changes in the last 30 years, but McCarran International Airport has been relying on the same air traffic control tower for almost that long. But the old air traffic tower will soon be history, replaced by a new facility at 352 feet tall. The Federal Aviation Administration broke ground Tuesday on the $99 million tower, which will open in 2015 in the area between the under-construction Terminal 3 and the Airport Connector Tunnel.

Amanda Aragon was supposed to go to prom and graduate high school this year, but instead her parents helped dedicate a memorial garden for their daughter Friday afternoon. The 11-year-old was killed while walking to Grant Sawyer Middle School in 2005. She was in a crosswalk when she was hit by an unlicensed driver in an unregistered car.

And transportation safety experts are worried about some other trends they are starting to see. The Governors Highway Safety Association, a non-profit group representing state highway safety offices, released the report Tuesday saying motorcycle fatalities dropped nationwide at least 2 percent in 2010.
