Fatal crash closes southbound lanes of I-15 at Tropicana

Southbound lanes of Interstate 15 were closed near the Strip Monday night after a fatal crash.
The Nevada Highway Patrol responded at 9:22 p.m. to the crash near Tropicana Avenue.

Southwest Gas Corp. on Thursday said its third-quarter loss narrowed from a year earlier.

The Las Vegas company lost $8.3 million or 18 cents per share vs. a loss in 2008's third quarter of $16.7 million or 38 cents.
State identifies companies authorized to modify loans

The Nevada Division of Mortgage Lending today released a list of 28 companies authorized to work with consumers in modifying home loans. On Monday, the agency said it was canceling the authorization to work for about 30 loan modification companies that failed to obtain a minimum $75,000 surety bond.

NV Energy Inc. on Monday said its quarterly profit rose as revenue also increased. The company, Nevada's main electric utility, said that for the third quarter ended Sept. 30 it earned $182.6 million, or 78 cents per share.

The number of visitors to Las Vegas was down 3.7 percent in August compared to a year earlier. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said 3,092,403 people visited the city in August, compared to 3,211,209 people in August 2008.
