Cowabunga Bay to offer guests a groovy time; lights out at West Sahara Firefly

A new waterpark is planning to make a splash with its grand opening.

Cowabunga Bay, the 1960s beach-themed park in Henderson, is scheduled to open Friday.

Meanwhile, Firefly closes one of its two remaining restaurants and a gay nightclub opens at Bally’s. Also around town, jewelry company Alex & Ani opens its first freestanding Las Vegas location.

    • Cowabunga Bay

      Henderson waterpark Cowabunga Bay is slated to open Friday.

      The 23-acre park will feature slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, a children’s play area and more.

      The park’s construction has experienced delays that have led it to miss two previously scheduled grand opening dates.

      Cowabunga Bay is expected to operate from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in July and August.

      Firefly closed another location this month, leaving just its Paradise restaurant open.

      Located at 9560 W. Sahara Ave, Las Vegas, West Sahara Firefly shuttered June 22.

      The owners cited the need to focus on “delivering a safe, consistent, quality and fun dining experience” for the closure. They have continued operations at Firefly on Paradise, the only remaining location after the owners closed their Henderson restaurant earlier this year.

    • Liaison at Bally's

      Liaison

      Gay nightclub Liaison opened June 20 at Bally’s.

      Decorated in black and gold, the 7,000-square-foot club is accented with mirrors and Venetian-style chandeliers. It offers a stage, multiple bars and two club rooms.

      Though the nightclub is up and running, the grand opening is set for Aug. 23.

      Liaison is open from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday through Sunday and will begin Thursday operations in the coming weeks.

    • Alex and Ani

      Alex & Ani

      Jewelry retailer Alex & Ani opened last month at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.

      The first freestanding Alex & Ani store in Las Vegas, the shop will sell bangle bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings.

      The Rhode Island-based company focuses on “positive energy” products and emphasizes corporate responsibility. The Las Vegas location is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

    • MaCarran Medical Clinic

      McCarran Medical Clinic and Pharmacy

      McCarran Medical Clinic and Pharmacy held its grand opening late last month.

      The event celebrated the official opening of the retail portion of the location and the ceremonial launch of the medical clinic at McCarran International Airport. The pharmacy also opened earlier this month.

      Located in Terminal 1, the facility will serve locals as well as tourists and has licensed medical providers on staff. The full-service drugstore fills prescriptions and sells products including TSA-approved toiletries.
